First introduced in Windows Vista the User Account Control is a feature that limits the privileges of applications ran by users with administrator rights. The UAC from Windows 7 differs from the one in Windows Vista. Although it is less annoying than the one in Vista, because the notifications appear in lesser cases, there might be some of you who wish to disable the User Account Control embedded into Windows 7. I must warn you though that shutting it down completely is a potential security risk and I ask of you to think twice before doing it. The good news is that now you can fine tune this UAC so that it will give you less headaches. There are several ways in which you can modify the UAC settings.
You can disable the UAC in Windows 7 by using one of the following methods:
Method #1: Control Panel
- Click on Start.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Open System and Security.
- In Action Center click on “Change User Account Control Settings”.
- After the UAC settings windows appears, move the slider to the lowest position in order to disable UAC.
If you do not wish to turn it off, you can move the slider to this position.
This will show fewer notifications and it will not dim your screen. After you are done click OK and then Yes.
Method #2: Msconfig
- Click on Start, then Run (If you do not see Run, view this article if you want it displayed in the Start menu) or press Winkey+R.
- Type “msconfig” and hit Enter.
- Go to the Tools tab, click on “Change UAC Settings” and press the Launch button.
- See Method #1, step 5.
